What are your style resolutions?
With a New Year unrolling in front of us, what style changes will each of us vow to accomplish in 2008? The obvious place to start is to figure out what we don’t like about our current style. Some may feel that they don’t have a style at all. Then that would be your #1 resolution....figure out your style. Look through magazines and be aware of the looks that keep attracting you. Find out what those looks have in common then incorporate them into your dress everyday. Soon you will be creating your own style. Others may feel they already look great and have their style defined. Then it may be time to clean out your closet(s), organize your accessories or update your hairstyle. More is not always better. A functional wardrobe with endless possibilities starts with quality basics that work. Whether novice or expert, your style and your overall image is a continuous work in progress. My strongest advice is to resolve to buy only what is BEST for you...best colour, best fit and best shape that flatters your body. If this comes at a good price, then that is a bonus. You are better to have fewer well chosen pieces of clothing and accessories than a closet full of clothes with few mix 'n matches.
A few days ago, I was shopping with a client. The well chosen shapes of clothing flattered her figure beautifully. However, she had created a habit of discounting her assets. She spoke of how much better she would look if only she had lost 5 lbs. Time and time with each outfit she tried on, she discounted her appearance. I finally said to her, “if you keep this up, you’ll convince me that you’re right!” If we speak to others in a complaining way about our bodies, eventually we’ll convince them that we are right. Ultimately that’s not what we really want. So, speak kindly about yourself; you will have more kind things to say about others as a result too.
There are many great style resolutions to focus on in 2008. Perhaps it is time to love your body as it is today! Not 5 lbs from now but right now exactly as it is. When you look at your reflection in the mirror, please say good things to yourself about yourself. Stop yourself from looking for what’s not right and train yourself to look for what’s good. Beauty starts in your heart, from the inside before it shines brilliantly on the outside. Be your own best cheerleader by what you silently say to yourself about how you look. Women of all shapes and sizes can look their best with clothes that are enhancing. Choose wisely.
Take a style moment and write down 3 resolutions for 2008. Put a deadline or a date by which you will accomplish those goals. Read them everyday. Tape them to the mirror in your bathroom. Believe in yourself and get started. Resolve to look your best in 2008 everyday; because you can.
