What's New - Fashion

Fashion

January is outerwear sales!  If you haven't bought a new coat for a couple of years, this month is the time to get the best prices.  Stock may be picked over, but do get out there and try a knee length, larger collared single button row coat.  Be sure the shoulders fit right for a clean, neat look.

February is time to clean out your winter wear closet to make room for your key spring pieces. There is a very helpful Closet Audit Worksheet available from www.LookingYourBest.biz which will guide you step by step what to do to get "out with the old and in with the new".

March is time to plan your spring purchases.  At Looking Your Best, we believe less is more.  We believe in strategically planning your purchases to have an outfit to wear to every occasion with the least amount of clothes.  Consider getting your "formula" from the Perfect Wardrobe Builder. Choose a capsule wardrobe builder for: Work, Casual, Sporty, Tropical and Evening.

Look for our Spring 2007 newsletter (coming in April) for advice on what's hot for Spring 2007 fashion.

Spring Secrets: Sara Mansi of You By Design shares her insights: "Some future trends I have found will be good news for those of us on a budget: some of last years trends will still stand the test of time.  Here is a short list of items that will still be hot this season: skinny pants, mini skirts, dresses and shorts (some of the high fashion ones are extremely short) will still play a major role.  In shoes, the wedge is still prominent but the newest exciting addition will be the gladiator sandal. As for accessories, chunky beads, long necklaces, chains and HUGE sunglasses  will stick around a while longer.

After a winter of blacks and deep, muted greys and browns, there is nothing more invigorating than the addition of spring and summer colours!  Watch for lush tropicals, high energy blues and greens, and poetic pastels that will bring your wardrobe alive."

Beauty: Skin Care

Dr. Paul ZakrewskiFeaturing Dr. Paul Zakrzewski of MD Spa & Laser Clinic

We asked Dr. Paul the questions YOU wanted to know about skin care:

Q. What are the main concerns women have about their skin?

A. The skin-related concerns most commonly expressed by women are related to presence of various blemishes and imperfections (moles, sun damage, age-spots, hyper-pigmentation, unwanted facial veins and facial hair or skin redness), sagginess of the skin on the neck and face, and overall loss of ‘healthy’ or ‘youthful’ appearance of the skin with the skin lacking its radiance, firmness and tone, and looking ‘old’ and ‘unappealing’.

Q. Of those concerns, what are their options to take care of them?

A. Most of the above changes in the skin appearance are related to the natural process of skin aging with the skin losing its tone and moisture content, getting thinner and revealing undesired changes in pigmentation and blood vessels. Modern medical esthetics offers many effective, non-invasive (no needle or scalpel), painless (or with minimal discomfort) procedures as well as skin care programs that gradually improve skin health and appearance and literally turn the clock back restoring much younger looking skin. Reviving of the skin is a complex process and consists of Client education, prevention of excessive skin damage from elements, delivery of effective ingredients directly to the skin with a simple and affordable skin care program, skin rejuvenation using minimally-invasive procedures (e.g., Microdermabrasion, Photorejuvenation, Peels, Fraxel® Laser Treatments). Improvement of skin tone and reduction of skin sagginess can be accomplished with Thermage® skin tightening (face, neck, body – buttock lift, tummy, thighs or knees) and elimination of unwanted fat deposits with mesotherapy.

Q. How often should a person wash their face?

A. Cleansing of the face (and neck) is a part of daily skin care regimen and is intended to remove dirt, dust, skin debris, sweat, bacteria etc. from our skin. This washing needs to be undertaken at least twice a day (at the starting of the day and before going to bed) and as many times it is needed. People who work in a very dirty or sweaty environment need to do it more often. It would be surprising to not clean the face (and body) after a gym workout or completing a shift in a hospital or just after coming home after a busy day at work! Another important thing is to use appropriate skin care products, do not over dry the skin or irritate it, and to always protect it from sun damage and the loss of moisture (so important in Alberta).
