What's Hot

Colour for Spring !

After a winter of dark colours, we are all ready for some colours full of life, summer breezes and fresh rain showers. This spring’s hot colours are cobalt blue, tropical greens and medium intensity yellows. As expected, bold prints in black and white are still a favorite in these hot temperature months ahead. What's New - Fashion

Fashion

April: The time is running desperately short to get yourself into those stores for the best pick of the spring fashion litter. Take my advice: buy the matching pant, skirt and jacket. Even if you don’t need one of those pieces right now, you’ll regret not having the easy mix and match options. See our online products at www.LookingYourBest.biz for The Perfect Wardrobe Builder.

May: You’ll see spring sales because the summer clothes are flooding the racks. Usually amazing sales the week before Mother’s Day. Buy your bathing suit and wrap while sizing's are plentiful.

June: Full out summer stock and wardrobe planning for the hottest days ahead. For sure you need at least one 100% cotton semi-full skirt that will keep you cool on those smoldering nights.

Top 10 Styles:

  1. Crystal Adornments on necklines: Call it built-in bling! Keep your hair and other accessories simple otherwise you’ll look too adorned like reliving the ‘80’s.
  2. 3-D Floral's: new dimension to flat fabric. Beware they aren’t where you’ll be sitting!
  3. Ruffles: tiers and tiers of ruffles…. again this year. Keep them away from your heavy parts of your shape or you’ll look larger than you are. Romantic types will love them.
  4. High Waists: showing off your thinnest body parts is always best. Sit in the skirt or short or pant before deciding on your size. Make sure they don’t create a bulge of fabric where you don’t want one.
  5. Yellow: not bright lemon, not pastel yellow; it’s in between. Self tan or use a bronzer to get that goddess look. Either way, choose the yellow that’s right for you and wear this dramatically upbeat colour. Which by the way is THE best colour to wear when working with children!
  6. Bold Prints: Chic in black and white.
  7. Metallic's: get used to seeing metallic. They are fast becoming mainstream and not just a trend. “Futurism” is becoming of age in the fashion world. This spring keep low wattage on the gold and silver.
  8. Skinny pants: Please, curvy beware! Lean Rectangles and Inverted Triangles will love ‘em. Wear with volume on top.
  9. Bubble skirts: Again, the lean love ‘em. The curvy….well, choose a body hugging top if you must.
  10. Sheer overlays: Romantic flowing layers of sheer fabric that moves when you move. Quite lovely.

This Spring/Summer’s must have:

A cotton summer dress that flatters your body’s shape that you would take long walks along the beach or dance under the stars. Team with an oversized slouchy neutral coloured bag and huge sunglasses as your headband. Pair with a Lucite wedge heel and you are all set for the time of your life!

Beauty: Skin Care

Dr. Paul ZakrewskiFeaturing Dr. Paul Zakrzewski of MD Spa & Laser Clinic

We asked Dr. Paul the questions YOU wanted to know about skin care:

Q. Do skin care products really help my skin stay younger looking?

A. Appropriately selected/prescribed skin care products are essential for helping the skin stay longer to look young and healthy. A skin care regimen should include cleanser, sun block (hypoallergenic and of appropriate quality) and moisturizer. Further benefits can be offered by selected skin products for control of excessive skin oils, blemishes, hyperpigmentation, and skin rejuvenation. All of these additional skin care products need to be used with care and be prescribed by skin care therapists after detailed skin analysis as often people use wrongly selected, often very expensive products that bring no benefit or even worsen the skin condition. Finally, people who like to use make-up are encouraged to do so, but the modern make up should be healthy, bacteria-free and give some added benefits like sun block or moisture restoration.

Q. What is the difference in Medical Spa quality products and those that are available off the shelf in the drugstore?

A. There is a lot of confusion with regard to ‘skin care lines’ and ‘quality’ of skin care products. Basically, three factors are critical: efficacy (‘is the product giving the promised results?’), safety (side effects or complications), affordability (price). In general, cosmeceuticals (cosmetics with the claims that their active ingredients make a positive change in the skin health and/or appearance) available only through specialized medical offices dedicated to skin therapy should be superior to products available in ‘spas’ or ‘medical spas’. The latter should be of higher rank that the products available off the shelf in a drug store. The most recent trend in marketing cosmetics it that some drug stores import European skin care lines with catchy or well established names. This will make even more confusion as this trend already results in a flood of sometimes ridiculous benefit claims accompanied by hefty prices!
